ponderings
The past few days, God has put in me such a feeling of wanting more of Him…wanting the real Him…not what America makes Him to be, what Christian culture makes Him to be or even what I perceive Him to be, I want the God of the Word…the full Lord, not pieces that I am comfortable with- but all of Him. I see cultural Christianity full of activities and lingo that isn’t at the heart of Christ on the cross. I see the church of Acts or the underground church in China and am inspired…but inspiration is futile if not life changing in some way. I want to know if anyone else out there can relate to how I’ve been feeling…because I’m not sure I’m articulating all that clearly. I don’t want to leave a sermon at church talking about us dying to ourselves and then see my brothers or sisters driving a lexus or a SUV with the kids watching TV in the car for the 10 minute ride back home where they can play video games or open the fridge to an insurmountable amount of food such as hot pockets. I know I’m rambling, the point is, how did we get so far from the way Christ lived? How are we do live in this world full of tons of “stuff” and not be of this world? If Paul was here today, what would he rebuke the church of America about? These and many more ponderings are running through my tired, busy brain. If you have any thoughts to add, I’d love to hear them.
In Christ, Kate

To begin, why would we want to go back to the NT church? It seems to me that most of the NT is written against the mass heresies flying around at the time dealing with gnostics, sexually immoral, and non-Trinitarians. It is easy to say that the church there was great, when infact, it wasn't it dealt with the EXACT same problems we still face today...(thank God for the invisible church). Secondly, what is wrong with having an SUV or other nice luxury car? Since when does physical wealth denote sinfulness? Abraham had so much stuff he couldn't keep it in a land with his nephew (that's more than most Americans). Christ doesn't tell us to not have stuff, he does tell us not to put anything before him. Anyway...those are just some thoughts :-)
TBC when life slows down even just a tiny bit.
